The construction industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors nowadays. In today’s world with the growth of rapid urbanization and the rise of tall skyscrapers, huge malls, factories, stadiums, entertainment venues, bridges, hospitals, and schools there is a huge demand for various construction jobs.

Construction is an enormous work that requires a number of skilled, unskilled and semi-skilled workforces specializing in their individual works. It is impossible to define the variety, but still, we detail below some of the basic construction jobs. Now a large number of workers migrate from the village to the city, only in the search of decent jobs that are related to construction sites. It all begins with planning and brainstorming. This is where construction management comes into play. They are responsible for all the planning, supervising and overseeing the entire construction project is completed in a predetermined time and within the allotted expense. They should have a college degree and can manage projects ranging from commercial complexes to residential works as well as institutional jobs like government schools, military bases, hospitals, factories, etc. Construction jobs also incur working for building dams, shopping malls and hospitals. There are levels of apprenticeship, skilled craftsmanship and training programs that construction work entails, and labourers are hired at all levels for these.

What work is given to civil engineers?

Civil engineers as part of major construction jobs are the main operators who either do consult or contracting. Consulting engineers plan, design and analyze the entire feasibility of the project whereas the contracting engineer hires workers, architects, vendors, ensure raw materials supplies and oversee the actual execution of the entire project.

What is the work of an electrician?

Electricians are responsible for the entire electrical wiring and circuit layout of the building. They install power connections involving working at tall heights, claustrophobic spaces, scaffoldings involving high voltage machinery. Plumbers install, fix and layout the entire pipework of the buildings like sanitation, central heating line, hot and cold water circulation, rainwater harvesting, gas, and oil distribution system or clearing a clogged sewage line.

Welders and Ironworkers erect the entire iron structures of the buildings. They erect huge iron pillars and steel frameworks supporting the multistoried building and bridges. The welders weld the different iron and metal parts, bolting and wiring them using heating instruments that can be highly dangerous in unskilled hands.  Carpenters install and repair all the wooden structures of the buildings, like ornate staircases, doors, windows, wooden frames, partitions and rafts. They also make wooden frames that are required for building concrete pillars and cement bases and the wooden scaffold for reaching heights.

The construction equipment operator is a skilled personnel who can operate heavy-duty machines used in construction sites like cranes, bulldozers, road graders, high reach arm cranes, trench excavators, and others. This construction job requires smooth and careful operational skills to avoid unwanted accidents.

Glaziers do all the glassworks like installing glass windows, skylights, display storefronts, doors and others. You get glaziers who work with single glazed and double-glazed windows as a part of the construction project. Plasterers give the final look of the structure before decorations by plastering the walls and the interiors smoothly before new paint and other decorations are applied.

Painters do the paintwork from a selection of primers and paints like weather coats, spray paints or do decorative paintworks.

Solar photovoltaic Installation is a relatively new area of construction jobs that involves planting solar panels on rooftops with proper protection from harsh weather conditions to harvest solar energy.

Thus, there are numerous job opportunities in the construction industry if one is willing to learn and work hard.
